Challenger Tom Reed today applauded the editorial in today's edition of the Washington Times, The editorial deals with Congressman Eric Massa's recent meeting with a national health care activist group in Pittsburgh.

The editorial challenges Congressman Massa to: 1) "explain to his constituents why his inside-the-Beltway judgment is superior to their common sense," 2) to explain "why he supports a government-controlled single-payer health plan instead of less costly options with a smaller government role," and 3) explain why he is "revealing his true beliefs...to left-wing activists in private meetings in faraway cities."

A link to the editorial can be found on www.TomReedforCongress.com or on the Opinion page of washingtontimes.com.

"I hear very strong opposition to single payer national health care," Reed mentioned. "Simply put, single payer is socialized, government-controlled medicine. It places the government into the exam room with the doctor and the patient. We have been in five counties just the last few days. Everywhere we go, people ask if Congressman Massa would really vote for a system which does that."

"I may not be a practiced politician," Reed added. "After four years of campaigning after moved into Western New York, you'd think Mr. Massa would have a better understanding of our district. Yet he goes to Pittsburgh to meet with a special interest group which offered to send people in to his town meetings. We'll see where his priorities are when he votes."

Reed has begun working on a proposal that would alleviate the healthcare financing crisis without penalizing employers and tax payers with additional costs and rationed care. The proposal is based on shifting the decision-making on health care spending from employer to employee. "I am gathering new ideas and opinions. When we force insurance companies to compete for our business in a free-market without government interference, everyone wins." Reed said.
