While challenger Tom Reed was pleased with Congressman Eric J.J. Massa's weekend vote against HR 3962, the misnamed "Affordable Health Care for America Act," Reed called Massa's vote misleading. Massa, an adamant supporter and co-sponsor of Medicaid for all, government run health care, told a Rochester television reporter that he wasn't supporting HR 3962 because the bill does not contain a "real" public option.

"Eric Massa voted against this bill because it does not have enough government control in it," Reed said. "In his ideal world, he would eliminate private health care altogether. We see this in the bills he has cosponsored. Eric Massa has uncompromisingly taken the extreme position on health care reform. "When it comes to health care decisions, people are telling me they want to work with their doctors, not a government board, to determine what treatment is necessary for them and when. Eric Massa trusts the government to make these personal decisions for us. I trust people to make these decisions for themselves."
