Today Tom Reed urged Congress to reject President Obama’s proposal to borrow $50 billion more
dollars to fund new unbudgeted projects saying, “That is $50 billion more borrowed on the backs of
our children and grandchildren. We can’t afford it.”

“Everywhere I go people are telling me that they want Washington to stop new spending and stop
borrowing,” Reed explained. He noted that infrastructure improvements are a legitimate expense
by the government, but emphasized that using the promise of infrastructure improvements as a
ploy to get votes and borrow more money is wrong. “Infrastructure projects should be funded in
the light of day through the budget process – not tossed out as vote-winning public relations eight
weeks before an election,” he said.

“We have to stop these efforts to borrow and spend our way out of the recession,” Reed declared.
“Over almost two years, more than 1 trillion dollars has been borrowed in the name of stimulating
the economy and we have nothing to show for it but nearly 15 million people unemployed and a
larger mountain of debt for taxpayers and businesses. Someone has to stand up and stop this. If
elected, I intend to do just that.”
