Tom Reed this morning called on Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Democratic leadership to stop playing
political games with the expiring tax cuts.

“It is now becoming clear that the Democrats do not plan tax cuts for the poor and middle class,”
Reed said. “They have a clear majority in the House. If they really wanted to cut taxes, they would
have done so by now. They can ram through a 2,500 page health care takeover in 48 hours but they
can’t vote on a tax cut for six weeks?”

Reed is referring to the tax cuts which are set to expire Dec. 31, at which time all Americans who
pay income tax will see tax increases with the lowest tax bracket getting the highest increase (10%
to 15%).

“With an economy still teetering and nearly 16 million people still looking for work, the last thing
we need is to raise taxes on those who are creating desperately needed jobs – but that is exactly
what is going to happen,” Reed observed. “We need to live within our means and deal with the
deficit over time by reducing spending, not raising taxes. We must cap and lower spending. Period.”

“It is clear that the Democrats are just dangling the idea of tax cuts in an effort to win votes,” Reed
concluded. “They have no intention of cutting taxes. It’s a re-election game. Unfortunately, we just
can’t afford to play games with the livelihoods of working families. We need a new generation of
representatives who will put a stop to this behavior once and for all.”
